DRUM PHASE

Multi-Playhead Drum Sequencer

DRUM PHASE is a browser-based drum machine built for polyrhythms, evolving rhythms, and performance-driven sequencing.

Instead of a single playhead moving across the grid, DRUM PHASE allows you to launch multiple independent playheads that run simultaneously at different speeds, lengths, and start positions. With just a few triggers you can create complex rhythmic structures that would normally take dozens of steps to program.

The result is a drum machine that feels alive — patterns constantly shift while staying locked to the same master clock.

Inspired by Classic Multi-Playhead Hardware

DRUM PHASE draws inspiration from experimental sequencers and instruments that explored the idea of multiple running playheads, including hardware like:

  • Elektron Machinedrum UW (multiple pattern relationships and performance sequencing.
  • Future Retro Orb / Mobius style pattern manipulation
  • Make Noise René Cartesian sequencing concepts
  • early analog step sequencers used for phase and polyrhythm experiments

DRUM PHASE brings that spirit into a modern browser-based instrument where multiple rhythmic timelines can coexist and interact.

Core Features

Multi-Playhead Sequencing

Launch up to five independent playheads at once alongside the master playhead. Each one can have its own start position, loop length, and playback speed.

Polyrhythms and Phase Patterns

Run playheads at different speeds and loop lengths to create evolving rhythmic relationships.

Performance-Focused Pad System

Trigger drums live, launch playheads, or record directly into the sequencer grid.

Probability Sequencing

Add controlled randomness to any step with probability levels of 75%, 50%, or 25% for constantly evolving grooves.

Clean / Occult Sound Modes

Switch between punchy modern drum sounds and darker distorted textures for experimental rhythms.

Quantized Pad Recording

Live pad playing stays locked to the sequencer grid so your rhythms stay tight.

Designed for Exploration

DRUM PHASE isn’t trying to emulate a vintage drum machine. It’s designed as a rhythmic instrument for experimentation and performance. Small changes in playheads can produce entirely new rhythmic structures.

Runs Anywhere

DRUM PHASE runs directly in your browser using Web Audio. No installation required.
